To John Hempstead

Jailor of St Louis County

You are hereby commanded to Bring before me at my office in the city of St Louis forthwith the body of William Johnson, imprisoned by the name of John Johnson, a free person of color who is illegally detained by you, as it is said, together with the day and cause of his detention, and here in fail not under the penalties that may fall thereon

Witness my hand and seal this 11th day of October 1854
