Alexander S. Butler v. John Hempstead. Writ of Habeas Corpus

 

The State of Missouri

To John Hempstead Jailor of the County of Saint Louis County Greeting

You are commanded to have the body of Alexander S Butler before the Law Commissioners Court of Saint Louis County on the 13th day of October 1854 at 2 O'Clock P.M. together with the time and cause of his detention by you to do and receive what shall then and there be adjudged concerning the imprisonment of said Alexander S. Butler who, as alleged in the annexed petition is illegally restrained of his liberty by you and have you then and there this writ with your return thereon.
