Case ID: hc.case.wa.0531
W. W. Wingard, the petitioner, was detained with T. W. Gosney for the crime of tampering with witnesses in an action pending before a court of the State of Washington. The case information states that the crime occurred on August 16th, 1915, and they attempted to persuade Rose Smith and Alma Moen from appearing before the court, who were subpoenaed, to appear in the entitled State of Washington, plaintiff, vs. Rose Foster case. Afterward, he was ordered to be confined in Pierce County Jail for four months and fined five hundred dollars ($15,461.98, 2024). On the 20th day of October 16th, Wingard filed a petition for writ with the claim of being deprived of liberty without the due process of law, denied a public trial, failed to be informed of the nature and cause of the charges, and denied constitutional rights under Article 6, and being denied the right to being confronted with witness. Judge Cushman allowed the writ and Wingard was released from custody.
