Filed before the US District Court for the Western District of Washington (Seattle, Washington)
Case ID: hc.case.wa.0523
Henri Dachez, a naturalized U. S. citizen from France, was sentenced to Pierce County Jail after he was found connected with the management of a house of prostitution, found receiving, sharing in, and deriving benefit from the earnings of a prostitute, and found assisting a prostitute. On August 7th, 1914, the Commissioner of Immigration at Seattle, Henry M. White, signed a warrant to deport Dachez to France after his jail sentence expired on January 16th, 1915. Dachez filed a writ of habeas corpus on January 15th, 1915, arguing that he should not be deported, since he was a U. S. citizen. Judge Cushman denied and dismissed the petition on February 8th, 1915, and ordered Dachez to remain in the custody of Thomas M. Fisher, an Immigration Inspector. Dachez then appealed Judge Cushman's ruling, and on March 15th, 1915, Judge Neterer allowed the appeal. The outcome of the appeal and the fate of the bound party, Dachez, is unknown.
