Case Summary

On June 22nd, 1921, Minnie Preis petitioned for a writ of habeas corpus on behalf of her 18 month child Lucile Preis. She had left the child with Martha Johnson after her husband died. Minnie claimed that Martha Johnson and Rilda Goff were withholding Lucile from her without just cause. The judge granted the petition. On the same day, Sheriff Michael Clark served the writ to Rilda Goff and Martha Johnson, as well as presented Lucile to the court. Writ was allowed and Minnie was awarded custody of Lucile. Soon after, Minnie married a man named Myron Evans in Omaha.
