John Goumas was arrested for disturbing the peace in South Omaha on June 13 by Chief of Police, John Briggs, and brought before the Police Court on June 17. Goumas was found guilty on June 20 and fined $100, costs, and held to 30 days of hard labor. Goumas and attorney, John M. Macfarland, petitioned for habeas against John Briggs, E. F. Brailey, and Frank F. Osborn on June 22. Goumas argued that he played no part in the disturbance and was being unlawfully detained. On June 27, the writ of habeas was sustained, and Goumas was released.
