William Johnson v. John Hempstead. Discharge

 

I the undersigned return the within writ and state that I obeyed the same by having the body of the within named William Johnson before the Hon Jno W. Colvin on the 11th October 1854 and that said William Johnson is detained by me in the Common jail of St Louis Co. Mo by virtue of a commitment issued by P.W. Johnstone Justice of the Peace of St Louis Co on the 9th August 1854, committing said Wm Johnson by name of John Johnson to the said Jail as a runaway slave upon complaint of Conrad Doll and that I have detained him said Johnson in custody since. the commitment of said Johnson together with the affidavit of said Doll are now in the hands of the Shff of St Louis County. Witness my hand Oct 11th 1854
